Zeronimo and Internationalist with Maiden wins

Impressive Racing returned to the winners stall during Easter with a somewhat contrasting double, with 4yo Zeronimo scoring at Geraldton on Thursday whilst 3 days later and about 800km further south at Albany our 2yo Internationalist was also victorious. There were some similarities as both horses recorded their first ever wins and both led all the way to score.

Zeronimo who is a massive gelding by Danzero opened his winning account when stepping into what many punters would have thought a much tougher 53-62 rated grade after he had been battling away in maidens. However what was in his favour was the step to 1600m and a much better barrier draw. A regular rider for Impressive Racing at Geraldton, Shaun Meeres, was able to jump him quickly and he showed plenty of staying characteristics as he held all the challengers on the line to prevail narrowly by a neck. The pleasing news for connections was that in addition to the $5,810 1st prizemoney he also earned a Westspeed bonus of $2,500. He is now starting to put it together on the racetrack and hopefully there are some more good runs in store. With staying options limited in the nor-west big Zeronimo will line up in the Non-Tab Mt Magnet Cup this Saturday over 1800m.

Internationalist, a filly by Zedative, has shown terrific ability in her short career and was even tested in the best company tackling the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate. Whilst she never measured up in that race with a horror run throughout from a wide gate, she has always acquitted herself well with placings in her other 5 career runs. The decision to give her an easy kill at Albany proved successful when she slaughtered her 3yo opposition by close to 3 lengths. Kyra Yuill jumped her quickly and the race was all but over turning for home as she had already opened up a good gap on her rivals and coasted to the line. The win brings her career prizemoney to a tick under $42,000 which is a top effort in her first season of racing. She goes for a well earned break now.
